Connor and Emily built their dream home on a 60-acre property with help from Rural 1st.
A home is a special place. It’s where you raise your family, create new memories with the ones you love and find peace at the end of a long day. There’s no better feeling than pulling into your driveway and seeing a house that immediately makes you smile.
When Connor and Emily Nichols drive up the hill to their dream white house on 60 acres of family land, they know it’s where they’re meant to be.
Connor and Emily originally lived in Musfreesboro, Tennessee. Both were familiar with the rural lifestyle—Connor grew up on a small farm with horses and llamas.
“I was always outdoors as a kid,” Connor said. “I really wanted to have that when I started my own family.”
The land in Woodbury, Tennessee where Connor spent time as a teenager was owned by his father and partner. The property came available for sale at just the right time.
“I was lucky enough to purchase it before Emily and I were even married,” Connor said. “I can remember bringing her out here, showing her the space and pointing out where I thought we could build our future house. She looked at me like I was crazy, but I knew I would make it happen.”
As time went by, Connor and Emily continued to feel called to the property. When they got married, they knew they were ready to set down roots in Woodbury. Connor had experts come out to the land to assess if they could build a house. The response was “How many bedrooms do you want?”
“I remember how I reacted when he called me,” Emily said. “I just couldn’t believe it. It was like I saw our future ahead of us and it all worked out.”
With their plans in motion, the couple needed a financing partner to secure a loan to build their dream home.
“My brother, Dale, introduced me to Rural 1st,” Connor said. “They worked with me to tie the land loan in with the mortgage and construction loan. It was a seamless process. They understood what we were trying to do because they live and breathe the rural lifestyle.”
After spending many months building their dream home, Connor and Emily couldn’t imagine their life any other way. They are raising their son, Tripp, on the property and now have Connor’s sister, Kayla, and her family living right next door.
“This was always a dream,” Connor said. “I’m proud of it. Now my thinking is shifting away from me and I’m thinking more about the future for my son. It’s all set up for him and I want him to enjoy it as much as we do.”
